About
E V E N A S T H E W O R L D E N D S
I first started the track "Even as the World Ends" as a cover of "Sleepwalk" by Santo and Johnny. I thought it would be cool to make an electric version, but this idea was short lived - I ditched that and came up with Even as the World Ends; surging basslines, ethereal sounds and poetry, on top of Sleepwalk's tempo.
After recording the track, I chose a rendition of the comet 12P/Pons-Brooks as it's cover. I was showing some music to a friend, when I opened my phone and saw an article stating that this comet would reach it's perihelion (closest point to the sun) on April, 21, my birthday. In that moment I knew Even as the World Ends had to be released on the 21st, and something bigger is at play.
The meaning of the song comes directly from my lover who I was just beginning to explore. In essence, this song is a surrender to love's light - a declaration of freedom and confidence. Even as the World Ends explores the parts of love that are not physical, venturing outside immovable boundaries of time and life and finding the courage to say I love you.
